Mind Control: 4 Visualization Exercises To Try Today!

I have been practicing meditation for nine years now, on and off for the first few years and consistently for the last five; I only realized this since looking back at my own journals. I have used meditation in many ways and have found my own ways of practicing that are comfortable for me. I have used it for coping in times that have been trying and as an aid for self-discovery. Quiet moments have served me well over the years and have been a way for me to lull my crazy-Gemini mind. Meditation and writing have saved my life many times. I have been exploring these visualization meditations lately and am really enjoying them! I am finding that these are really great for charging imagination, advancing self-knowledge, refreshing oneself, getting in touch with one’s intuition and gaining more control of the mind. There is no certain level of knowledge about meditation needed to begin, really only to put yourself in a relaxed, comfortable state with your eyes closed.

Energy Raising Visualization means to draw the energy of something into you, this could be the idea of positive or healing energy, or drawing energy from specific objects, like the trees or stones. Once in a meditative/relaxed state we want to visualize the source of the energy. If the energy were a specific object, like trees or nature in general, then we could imagine that the walls of the house have disappeared and all of the trees and plants around us are now within view. Begin by imagining being able to see them light up with life, their energy glowing. Begin to draw the energy to us by visualizing the light of the object beginning to flow out of it, like a tunnel of light and direct it toward us. If the energy source is more of an idea, like positivity, love or healing, begin by envisioning a cloud or sphere above us and imagine the energy manifesting within it, glowing stronger. From there we begin to draw the energy down into us, tunneling or raining down on us the same as when from a specific object. Bask in the energy flowing into you.

Energy Expelling Visualization means to unleash energy from within us, either positive or negative. This involves imagining the energy manifesting, like before, as well as directing it purposefully. For example if it were our positive energy we wanted cast out to someone or something, we would visualize this energy tunneling to them/it. However, if the practice were to cast away negative energies from ourselves we would want to visualize the energy be washed away or destroyed.

Subconscious Unleashing means to tap into our inner most self. This is can be used when dealing with a specific question or situation, and wanting to know how we really feel about it, or simply as a way to strengthen self-knowledge. This can be done in many ways, one being, while meditating/relaxing, asking the question or stating the problem, then allow the immediate answer to ring through. What you decipher from your answer can either tell you what you really need to know or show you a feeling that perhaps you haven’t given much attention. Another way of unleashing the subconscious is to visualize ourselves dealing with the problem or in the actual scene that we want to deal with, and the various ways of going about it. How we imagine our reactions in situations are very telling of how we deal with our problems and how we truly feel about the situations. The third exercise is where we visualize the room we are in, with our eyes closed. Whether a bedroom, or living room, envision walking around the room and what can be seen there, then go through, one by one, all of the bedrooms (living rooms, kitchens) you’ve had, looking around and spending time in each one of them, right back to the very first.

Self-discovery and Imagination Building- The Walk About Method: Picturing oneself in different scenes and places. Imagine wandering in a forest and exploring what is there, or walking through a library, finding a book, opening it up and reading what is written there. The goal being to create the space, really take a look around and acknowledge what you see and feel there: the weather, the time of day, the landscape, what it smells like, etc. And then, begin to travel around there.

I’ve found using these to be interesting and useful tools for structured meditation sessions. (As well as some writing material.) The great thing is that there is really no time limit for these; they can be started as quickly as you can get your imagination to work and last as long as you have to offer. We all can have active imaginations but there is a certain power that comes from creating it purposefully.
