Getting Outside This Fall!

Fall means new, exciting and go, go, go! The start to the season is nearly upon us and with it; a new chapter of our lives arrives at our door. From getting the kids out the door and back to school, our morning runs becoming crisper and more colorful and using our morning coffee to warm our hands as we head to work; it is all just around the corner. Fall in Ontario is one of the most breathtaking things to see, I’ll truly take any excuse to get out into that crisp air. Here are some of the things I can’t wait to do outside this fall!

Trail hiking and running are at their best when autumn begins to roll in. The beautiful transformation of our landscape, mixed with our childhood memories of fresh fall starts, seems to evoke transformation and change within us every time it comes around. Fall is a time for inspiration and growth, and to miss out on our Canadian trails as they change just will not do! Take your walks around the block, morning jogs, and yoga mat to your favorite trail or park and enjoy the natural artwork!

Apple and pumpkin picking, whether we have kids or not, is heartwarming as the air around us starts to chill. For me, I especially love the colors of fall in all its harvest-glory! I love even just the thought of the smell of my mother’s apple crisp baking and the fun of carving and decorating the pumpkins.

Football season shouldn’t be spent just on the couch over dip, although that should definitely take place, I can’t wait to throw around the football this fall. My family and I often play catch, but there is something so fun about being out in the yard or at the park after a warm, savory meal, tossin’ the ball around with the people you love.

Fires are not just for the summer time! Gathering around an outside fire with a cup of warm apple cider is one of the best ways to cozy up in the fall! Throw in some spooky stories to get us in that eerie autumn mood; no fire will rid us of the goose bumps!

Fall picnics are probably even better than summer picnics! Why? Because there are less bugs scrambling to get at our lunch, first of all. Also, fall food really is the best food and the leftovers from roasts are easy and delicious to pack up! You can take in all the best elements of fall with a picnic!
