The Gathering

Welcome to The Gathering! And, to the start to the first full week of the New Year! A while back, I wrote about how I feel like Sundays are a spiritual day whether we’re religious or not. And, how I feel it’s important to set time aside every week to reflect and appreciate the things in our lives, and to talk to our inner-most-self, and the universe about the problems we face and the goals we have. So from that idea, The Gathering has emerged: a weekly conversation, every Sunday, between you and I about spiritual living! I hope you’ll all join me in the coming weeks in exploring our own energies and growth.
Today, with the bustle of the holiday season behind us and as we turn through the first few pages of what this year holds for us, I think it is appropriate for us to discuss two things: Reflection and Projection in 2016. There are many memes and quotes out there on social media indicating a new year, a new me, and in many ways this is true and very inspiring. But for many, once the ball drops and the holiday décor comes down, and we return to the day-to-day, we can reach a low from all of the holiday high. For some, there are many problems or trials from 2015 that we’re still working on. And, that’s ok. As we take a real reflection today on the last years events, not just the highlight reel, but also the hard lessons learned, take account of that growth, truly. A New year/ new me, sounds too much like a wiping of the slate, when really, who wants to wipe away all that hard work. Today in the reflection of the year take account of who you’ve grown into this year and don’t be so quick to wipe it all away.
Use this reflection for your projection of the week, for the energy you muster in these first few days of 2016. Remember that by this time next year, these days will be what you will reflect upon, and that you have the power to make those memories whatever you want. When you think of the top ten words you’d like to describe yourself with 2016, use what the last year has given you, the burdens, the trials, the successes, the growths; strap them all to your tool belt, to draw yourself to where you’re supposed to be. And then of course be thankful for them – all the problems we faced, as we know that they are lessons in disguise. For all of the successes because we know that they are the fruit of previous lessons learned. And for all of the ways the Universe stuck its neck out for us, even when we didn’t see the big picture.
So let’s get out there and do what fills our souls and charges our batteries while trusting the universe. Let’s create 2016. I hope you all had a lovely holiday season and I hope you’ll all join me back here next week as we continue on this spiritual-soul-searching adventure together. If you’re going to believe in anything, make it yourself.
