The Gathering: The Fighter

Well, like the Tate vs. Holms fight last night, sometimes life can be unpredictable. One would have logically thought, or at least this fan did, that since Rousey had essentially torn through Tate, and Holms had done the same to Rousey, that when they put Holms and Tate together the outcome would be in Holms’ favor. But this was not the case. Somebody said that the only effective way to predict the future is to look to the past, but in the battles of our lives, things can happen that we could never have seen coming. (And like the battles in our lives, there will be those who will say they could have.)

When we step into the cage to face our battles we bring so many variables with us; enough sleep, the right food, all the things we’ve learned, and sometimes they’re still not enough to get the win. But what does a good fighter do after a loss? They learn from it. They go back to camp, back to training. They look at what their weaknesses are, right in the face and work on it. Work on it hard, until it hurts, until they sweat and bleed. And then, get back out there. Why? Because we all have our battles to face and yes, we can pick them to a point, but we all know that one win isn’t the end, there will be more battles – just as with one loss.

This Gathering is short and sweet; we need to take the time to heal, look for the lessons, assess where we went wrong and then put the gloves back on, even when there is no guarantee of the outcome. Happy Sunday and an obvious congratulations to Miesha Tate!
